Sterling youth shot and killed as intruder when he entered the wrong home

We normally don’t post news out of Sterling, but this one is so tragic and notable that we are making an exception. From the Washington Post:

Loudoun County officials have identified the teenager who was killed after entering his neighbor’s home early Sunday morning as 16-year-old Caleb Gordley, a junior at Park View High School.

Caleb, who had been drinking with friends that night, got into his neighbor’s home in the 45900 block of Pullman Court through a back window, officials said.

Caleb’s home was two houses away. Family members say Caleb mistakenly entered the wrong home thinking it was his.

The homeowner, who authorities have not identified, heard his house alarm activate at about 2:30 a.m., officials said. When he went to investigate, he saw Caleb on his stairwell and shot him, officials said.

It was unclear what kind of exchange the two had before the homeowner shot him.

When investigators came to the home, they found a rear window was open. It was unclear whether the homeowner left it open or if Caleb pushed it open.

There have not been any criminal charges filed in the case.

Sterling bank robbed by man wearing Mitt Romney mask

As a rule this site concentrates on activities in or right around Oak Hill. Occasionally a story from adjacent areas (Sterling in this case) is interesting enough to highlight, like this one. Not only did the guy wear a Mitt Romney mask, but went to each of the five tellers at the branch office in order to get more money:

A bank branch in Sterling, Va. was held up Thursday afternoon, and the fact that the robber stopped at every teller’s window is the least bizarre of the circumstances. (To us, at least; the FBI is fixated on that fact.)

The guy was wearing a mask that appears to resemble former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the Republican Party’s nominee in this year’s presidential election. NBC4 reports that the armed suspect entered a Wells Fargo branch in Sterling and began demanding money from each of the five tellers. It was a scene that can only be told by the emotive tones of Pat Collins:

E-yuck. Sterling man accused of producing child pornography.

From the Fairfax Times. Read the whole article if you want the details. They aren’t pretty.

Shiloh Richard Forrest, 36, of Sterling, was indicted Thursday (Nov. 17) for allegedly filming himself engaging in sexual acts with a child.

A federal grand jury in Alexandria returned a four count indictment charging Forrest with two counts of producing child pornography, one count of distributing child pornography and one count of receiving child pornography.
