McNair Elementary earns Excellence Award

Way to go McNair Elementary!

McNair Elementary has earned the Virginia Board of Education Excellence Award, one of only 51 schools in the entire Commonwealth. We won this award for making significant progress toward goals for increased student achievement and expanded educational opportunities. Congratulations to all of the staff and students for their hard work.

Outstanding teachers at McNair Farms Elementary

From the school’s web site, some news about their outstanding teachers.

Georgina Chin, ESL teacher, received a school stewardship mini-grant to create three vegetable gardens and a butterfly garden and a grant from the Audubon Society to enhance the butterfy garden. She will be attending a monarch training workshop in the spring.

Under the auspices of David White, our school’s Eco-Action Team received a Bronze Award for our work in protecting the enviroment..

Melissa Hansen and Hannah Franks received an Action for Healthy kids grant, enabling us to address childhood fitness and health.

Della Brown presented at the National Conference for National Board Certified Teachers at the Capitol in July.

Laura Reasoner Jones, founder and director of the GEMS clubs, was invited to the national Clinton Global Initiative conference in Chicago to work with other national figures in STEM. Her efforts were mentioned by former President Clinton in his closing remarks.(Scroll to 1:07:52)

Dine with the Stars at PeiWei in Woodland Crossing–Thursday, November 11 from 3:00-9:00 P.M.–proceeds support McNair

Veterans’ Day Choral Program–Thursday, November 11 at 7:00 P.M. All families and veteran welcome.
