  • Dairy Farming at Walney: Butter & CheeseEllanor C. Lawrence Park, Chantilly. Walney and E.C. Lawrence Park have a long dairy farming history. From 1 to 2 p.m., taste hand-churned butter and sample cheeses while learning about the importance of this industry at Walney. Tour the historic dairy and try your hand at milking a pretend cow.   • Colonial Day. Sully Historic Site, Chantilly. 11am-4pm. No reservations required. At Colonial Day, see Revolutionary War soldiers in camp and on the battlefield. Learn about daily life in rural Virginia. Make a craft to take home, step a country dance and have a hearty snack in our Colonial tavern.   • Hands-on Nature. Drop-off your child (ages 5-11) at 2 p.m. for an hour of natural adventure at E.C. Lawrence Park. Nature brings variety to each month’s program. Children feed exhibit animals, search for wildlife, explore fur pelts, bones and other natural artifacts, and take home a craft. The cost is $5 per child. Register online.   • Blue Grass Barn at Frying Pan Farm Park. Herndon, VA. East of Monroe. “Leveraging roots in traditional bluegrass, East of Monroes music explores swing, country, folk, pop, jazz, and bluegrass. Extensive experience and tight vocal harmony, together with fresh original songwriting, combine to offer a brand new and unique sound on the American acoustic music scene. Band members Wally Hughes, Lisa Kay Howard, Jackie Frost, Richard Ward, Billy Budd, and Gary Ferguson will bring an entertaining evening to the Bluegrass Barn. Doors open at 6pm, concert starts at 7pm. Food and drinks available for purchase. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door.”
  • Hands-on History. Drop off your children (ages four to nine) and let explore the lives of 19th century children with a costumed interpreter at E.C. Lawrence Park from 1 to 3 p.m. Various activities include games, penmanship, washing clothes and making a food item such as butter, ice cream, cheese or applesauce. The cost is $12 per child.
