Acoustic Jam

Come to Frying Pan Farm Park Country Store from 1 to 4 p.m. for an afternoon of free music fun. Whether you’re pickin’, strummin or just listenin’ – it’s an old-fashioned knee-slappin’, finger-poppin’, toe-tappin’ good time! Bring your instrument or come by to enjoy this drop-in music session. The Acoustic Jam brings music to the farm on the first and third Sundays of each month. Call 703-437-9101 for information.

Virginia Hunter Horse Show Series

Starting at 9 a.m. at Frying Pan Farm Park, watch classes that include hunters, ponies, equitation and more. This activity is held indoors rain or shine. Spectators are free. Call 703-437-9101 for information.

Game Day

Bring your family and friends or meet new friends at an afternoon of old-fashioned board games at Frying Pan Farm Park Visitor Center from 2 to 4 p.m. Before television and movies, friends and families would get together, talk, play and socialize over a game board. Enjoy Dominoes, Backgammon, Monopoly and Parcheesi. Play a favorite game or learn a new one. This family activity perfect for a winter’s day is free. Call 703-437-9101 for more information.

Raise the Rafters

Join Katy Benko and Julie Crosson on a journey through the roots of rock at Frying Pan Farm Park Visitor Center from 2 to 3 p.m. Each month’s interactive performance in this three-part series covers a decade, focusing on the trademark musical styles and artists, and the history and culture that influenced and inspired the musicians. In this first installment, enjoy jazz and Big Band music from the 1940s and learn how World War II affected the musical era. This free family activity is co-sponsored by The Council for the Arts of Herndon and the Fairfax County Park Authority. It is recommended for children six years and older. Little Hands on the Farm – Farm Fun for Little Ones

Come to Frying Pan Farm Park from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. with the little ones ages two to four. Enjoy a farm story and activity, crafts, games or songs. Each program is different. Matinee Movie – Babe

Don’t miss this opportunity to see Babe at noon to1:30 p.m. or 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Frying Pan Farm Park Visitor Center. Enjoy this movie favorite free of charge on the Visitor Center’s 12′ screen. Released in 1995, this Academy Award winning film tells the heartwarming tale of Babe, who thinks he is a sheep herding pig. It is rated PG. Groundhog Celebration

Groundhog Day comes a little early to Frying Pan Farm Park! Snowstorm post mortem

Herndon received an unofficial 21 inches of snow from the snowstorm. From the National Weather Service. Most side streets have yet to be plowed. The thoroughfares are passable. Lanes may disappear or have slush in them.

Snowstorm buries Oak Hill

A surprisingly powerful snowstorm is blanketing the Oak Hill area. This storm already ranks as the 10th biggest on record for the Washington region.

15 inches of snow was recorded as of  5:25 PM today in Herndon.
